Kevin Fickenscher

● Biography

Kevin Fickenscher is President and Founder of CREO Strategic Solutions, LLC – an organization focused on senior executive strategic support, leadership development and assistance with evolving care delivery models for the healthcare industry. Previously, he served in a variety of positions for Dell Healthcare Services (NASDAQ: DELL) on both a domestic and international basis. His Dell experiences were preceded by leadership roles with Perot Systems, where he developed and led the healthcare consulting practice and served as the Chief Medical Officer prior to assuming his roles as the head of International Healthcare Services based in London and as the leader for Strategic and Development Services. Perot Systems was acquired by Dell, Inc. in November 2009.

​Dr. Fickenscher is a recognized physician executive leader with extensive experience in strategic and operational development in complex healthcare organizations. He is a thought leader related to technology and information management and holds extensive experience in organizational transformation and development, physician management, health policy analysis, leadership development, clinical quality and resource/care management, among other areas.

Dr. Fickenscher is considered to be a dynamic, visionary leader in healthcare throughout the world. He has consistently been ranked among the Most Powerful Physician Executives in Healthcare by Modern Healthcare. He is a regular participant in discussions and debates related to the future of healthcare throughout the world, including testimony before the U.S. Congress and participation in a variety of international healthcare forums. Among his other accomplishments are his selection as a Regional White House Fellow finalist [1984], a Kellogg National Fellow [1985], and an Emerging Leader in Healthcare [1991]. He also served as the Health Advisor to the 1988 Biden for President Campaign and on the Clinton Healthcare Task Force.

Dr. Fickenscher graduated from the University of North Dakota School of Medicine in 1978 and trained as a family physician. He obtained his Family Practice Board-Certification in 1982, and is a Certified Physician Executive and Fellow with the American College of Physician Executives and a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.

Telehealth

Referring to health information services, health care education, and health care services in a broad sense, the term telehealth is an all-encompassing one. In fact, telecare and telemedicine are generally covered within the broader scope of the term telehealth. Included in telehealth are health education services, remote monitoring of vital signs, ECG or blood pressure and remote doctor-patient consultations (telemedicine). Telehealth technology enables the remote diagnoses and evaluation of patients in addition to the ability to remote detection of fluctuations in the medical condition of the patient at home so that the medications or the specific therapy can be altered accordingly. It also allows for e-prescribe medications and remotely prescribed treatments. Telehealth is similar to telemedicine but includes a wider variety of remote healthcare services beyond the doctor-patient relationship. It often involves services provided by nurses, pharmacists or social workers, for example, who help with patient health education, social support and medication adherence, and troubleshooting health issues for patients and their caregivers.

Telecare

Telecare is the term that relates to technology that enables patients to maintain their independence and safety while remaining in their own homes. This technology includes mobile monitoring devices, medical alert systems, and telecommunications technology like computers and telephones. Continuous remote monitoring of patients enables telecare to track lifestyle changes over time as well as receiving alerts relating to real-time emergencies. Telecare generally refers to technology that allows consumers to stay safe and independent in their own homes. For example, telecare may include consumer-oriented health and fitness apps, sensors and tools that connect consumers with family members or other caregivers, exercise tracking tools, digital medication reminder systems or early warning and detection technologies.

Telemedicine

This term has a narrower scope than that of telehealth. It refers more specifically to education over a distance and the provision of health care services through the use of telecommunications technology. Telemedicine refers to the use of information technologies and electronic communications to provide remote clinical services to patients. The digital transmission of medical imaging, remote medical diagnosis and evaluations, and video consultations with specialists are all examples of telemedicine. Telemedicine can be defined as using telecommunications technologies to support the delivery of all kinds of medical, diagnostic and treatment-related services usually by doctors. For example, this includes conducting diagnostic tests, closely monitoring a patient's progress after treatment or therapy and facilitating access to specialists that are not located in the same place as the patient.
